Mexico vs Nigeria 2023: Epic Showdown
Nigeria and Mexico meet in the first match of the Women’s Revelations Cup. Both teams are looking to improve their record in this tournament.
Mexico is ranked 35th in the world and comes into this match after a 1-1 draw with Chile in their last friendly. Randy Waldrum coaches Nigeria and has a rich history of continental success.
Mexico: Guillermo Ochoa
Guillermo Ochoa is the main competitor for the Mexico goalkeeper position and will look to cement his place if he can keep a clean sheet against Nigeria. The Ligue 1 goalkeeper is the only player to have kept a clean sheet in both of Mexico’s World Cup matches, and his save from Neymar’s header was likened to Gordon Banks’ 1970 “Save of the Century”.
But it hasn’t all been plain sailing for Ochoa, who was booed by fans during Sunday’s CONCACAF Nations League draw with Jamaica. And he will need to produce another impressive display to stand any chance of making the final squad under Herrera. Ochoa has 107 caps for his country and has appeared in five World Cups. The experienced stopper is Mexico’s most capped goalkeeper. He is a vital cog in this El Tri side.
Mexico: Diego Lainez
After impressing at the 2023 Concacaf Women’s Championship, where he stood out against England, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is said to be keeping tabs on Mexico teenager Diego Lainez. Lainez made his senior debut with Club America last season after earning a spot in the team’s first-team squad through a clerical error.
Despite that, the young winger still sees limited time on the field for Los Aguilas. He’s been unable to get into the starting lineup and only started four of the team’s eight league matches this season.
He did score twice in the Apertura semifinal series against Pumas UNAM. In his most memorable moment of the season, he slalomed past one Cruz Azul defender and then tucked the ball past another with a fake shot. That’s what he needs to do more often for Tigres if he wants to make an impact in Liga MX Femenil.
Mexico: Jesus Angulo
With Arsenal U-23 youngster Marcelo Flores ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury, Mexico coach Gerardo Martino will look to his other options in midfield. Other candidates include Cruz Azul’s Uriel Antuna, Chivas’ Alexis Vega and Monterrey’s Rodolfo Pizarro.
Another competitor for a place in the lineup is Club America’s Henry Martin, who has been playing well in Liga MX lately. He is the main contender to replace injured Monterrey striker Rogelio Funes Mori.
Mexico are a stronger team than Nigeria and should be able to win this match. However, the Nigerians are dangerous, and they can cause problems for the home team. Therefore, it’s a good idea to bet on the ‘over 2.5 goals’ market. This will provide profits if the Mexicans score more than one goal in this match.

Mexico: Hector Moreno
Hector Moreno is one of the main competitors for the position of central defender for Mexico. The 23-year-old has been with the national team since he was called up in 2007.
Moreno made his debut for Club Universidad Nacional at 18, and soon he moved abroad to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, where he won a title. He then joined Espanyol and has been a regular in the Spanish league ever since.
Moreno has become a main figure for El Tri fans due to his consistency in the defensive zone, his focus, and his razor-sharp concentration. Get your Hector Moreno jersey and cheer for the defender from the stands of Estadio Leon. It will be a great match!
Mexico: Cesar Montes
The Mexican women’s national team is looking to make a comeback after their failed attempt to qualify for the 2023 World Cup. The Mexicans are led by new coach Pedro Lopez and players such as Kiana Palacios, Charlyn Corral and Carmelita Espinoza.
As a defender, Cesar Montes has been a key contributor for Espanyol this season. He has appeared in 16 La Liga games this campaign, playing as a starter on 15 occasions and entering as a substitute on one occasion.
He has recorded five tackles (two won), five interceptions and 27 clearances this season, contributing to one clean sheet.
Mexico: Henry Martin
After a poor showing against Panama, El Tri bounced back in a big way against Nigeria. Diego Lainez and Cesar Montes scored in each half to give Gerardo Martino’s side an easy 3-0 victory. Maligned left-back Hirving Lozano also impressed with a direct style of play, and he almost had a goal after a one-two with Henry Martin, but his effort was ruled offside.
Henry Josue Martin Mex is a forward who plays for Liga MX club Club America and has been a regular in the Mexico national team. He made his debut for the senior side seven years ago and has come close to scoring a goal in each of his appearances. The 30-year-old started his career with the local Merida team Venados before moving to Xolos of Tijuana and later moving to America.
Mexico: Jose Maria Correa
The Mexican women’s team has been under pressure lately, with no victories in their last five matches. However, they managed to get a draw in their last friendly match against Chile. The home team will be boosted by the presence of their star player, Katty Martinez.
Nigeria is the main competitor for Mexico in this match, which is part of the Women’s Revelations Cup. The visitors are currently ranked one place below the Mexicans on the continent.
The match will be played at the Estadio Leon, a stadium with a maximum capacity of 35,000 spectators. It is named after the city of Leon, where it is located. The venue will be filled with fans looking forward to the match. In terms of betting, the’ over 2.5 goals’ market could bring profits for bettors. The game will start at 17:00 local time.
Mexico: Luis Medina
The Oakland Athletics’ Luis Medina proves he belongs in the Major Leagues. On this week’s episode of Locked On A’s, host Jason Burke discussed how the right-hander has performed in his first three starts.
Mexico aims to break a winless run that spans five matches, and they do so against a Nigeria side that comes into this game ranked number one in Africa. The Mexicans are led by Pedro Lopez, who took over from Monica Vergara following the team’s failure to qualify for the last Women’s World Cup.
Mexico’s offence will be key, especially the duo of Kiana Palacios and Charlyn Corral, both top scorers in Liga MX Femenil. Both teams have problematic defences, and this could be a high-scoring affair.
Mexico: Juan Pablo Carrizo
Juan Pablo Carrizo is an Argentine creative director. He has worked in most of the best agencies in Argentina, including DDB, BBDO and Santo. He won several Lions in Cannes and a few Clio and One Show awards.
Mexico, ranked 35th in the world, is looking to break its losing streak after a 1-1 draw with Chile in their previous match. They are playing their first game under new coach Pedro Lopez.
Nigeria is ranked number one in Africa and 45th in the world. They are in a tough group with Australia, Canada and Ireland, so they will have to work hard to progress to the next round. The Black Falcons have lost their last five matches but are still confident and will fight hard against the Mexican team. They are very dangerous when they get close to the goal.
Mexico: Diego Guerrero
Diego Guerrero is a Mexican politician from the Ecologist Green Party. He is the current Deputy of the LXI Legislature of the Mexican Congress representing Mexico City. He was born on October 26, 1985.
His crest features the Caballero Tigre, the Tiger Knight of the Mexica (Aztec) army. The tiger symbolises strength and power, and the knight holds his macuahuitl, a club-like weapon with sharp stones.
El Tri is the favourite in this match, but Nigeria is a dangerous team that can cause problems for the hosts. It will be worth betting on the ‘over 2.5 goals’ market, as both teams have problems defending. The stadium is full of fans, and the atmosphere is very intense. The match will be broadcast live on TUDN.
